GVCA Selected as VITA site to offer Free Tax Help

The GVCA Financial Services Center is offering income tax preparation assistance from January 30 - April 15, 2010 at our offices. These are drop-in events with no registration necessary. The days and times are Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. For information about what documents to bring with you, click here for English and click here for Spanish .

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is a national initiative of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that offers FREE tax help to low- to moderate-income ($48,000 and below for Tax Season 2010) people who cannot prepare their own tax returns. IRS certified and trained volunteers, sponsored by various organizations, help prepare basic tax returns and help working families with special tax credits such as Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Credit for the Elderly for which they may qualify. VITA sites are generally located at community and neighborhood centers, libraries, churches, schools, shopping malls, and other convenient locations. Each location also offers free electronic filing.

The VITA program In metro Atlanta is managed by the Atlanta Prosperity Campaign, in partnership with the Internal Revenue Service.  The VITA program is offered at numerous sites in the community.
